What Is Napa Wino?
Napa Wino is a free, editorially independent Napa Valley visitor guide. It exists because the two obvious alternatives — a tourism board's marketing site and a generic search engine — each leave a gap. A destination marketing organization can't tell you a popular attraction isn't worth the drive. A search engine gives you fifty tabs and no route. Napa Wino is built to do the thing neither can: give a straight, opinionated answer, then hand you a plan.
The three things that make this different
1. It knows where you're standing
Napa Wino's homepage can detect, with your permission, which of the four main towns — Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, or Calistoga — you're in or nearest to, and switch its recommendations accordingly. No app to download; it runs in the browser the moment you land on the page. As far as we've found, no other Napa Valley guide does this. Most either ignore location entirely or require an app install to get it.
2. The Suggester plans the day, not just the list
Tell it what you want — "bold Cabernets and a view," or "a day with no driving" — in plain English, and it does three things a directory can't: it filters from a fixed list of over 50 verified wineries (it doesn't invent options), it orders the stops geographically so you're not backtracking on Highway 29, and it slots a lunch table between stops two and three. That's routing logic, not a search filter.
3. Zero paid placements, and we say so
No winery or restaurant pays to appear in the guide, and none pays for better placement. The real estate section is separate, clearly labeled, and doesn't touch editorial coverage. This is also why the guide is comfortable naming which cult wineries you flatly cannot visit, which attractions have closed, and which itineraries other sites still recommend that don't actually work anymore — Highway 29 traffic being the usual reason.
What Napa Wino is not
It's not a booking platform — reservations happen directly with each winery or restaurant. It's not affiliated with Visit Napa Valley, Napa Valley Vintners, or any tourism board; nothing here required member approval to publish. And it's not a static site: the live music and dinners page refreshes itself automatically via a live search-backed system, and the harvest and events pages are checked and updated on a rolling basis through the season.
Who runs it
Napa Wino is produced by a small independent team with no ownership stake in any winery, restaurant, or venue it covers. The real estate section is run separately by a licensed California brokerage and is disclosed as such — it never influences which wineries or restaurants get featured, and it carries no special weight in the AI sommelier's recommendations.
